League Coaches Report – Round 18 vs Port Adelaide Magpies

Saturday‘s game was a fitting end for a True Champion of the Glenelg Football Club in Ty Allen. Ty is a greatly respected figure at our Club so it was important to show him the respect he has earned throughout his career, not only by the Glenelg faithful and Football Club but the entire SANFL competition. The coaching staff challenged the boys to finish the year in a positive way and there was no greater stage, playing the flag favourites in Port Adelaide at Gliderol Stadium.

The boys have done a great job in keeping up beat all year, building the culture of our football club and making it a better place to be. Unfortunately the win/loss ratio hasn’t been what we would have liked. The facts are we have improved in a lot of areas but we haven’t played enough consistent football  over four quarters. But we have at times showed some great signs in patches. Saturday it all clicked.

It was great to play four consistent quarters. We were challenged by Port on numerous occasions throughout the game and it was so pleasing to see our boys show great leadership and stand up when it mattered. It was a fitting end to what’s been an amazing career for Ty Allen and we thank him for the outstanding contribution he has made to the Glenelg Football Club. It was great to see our supporters turn out on the day and hang around after the game to support Ty, the boys and Football Club. One thing that sticks in my mind from the game, was how loud the Tigers chant was at the 3 quarter time break. We look forward to hearing this many more times in 2015.

I want to personally thank all the Sponsors, members and supporters for your support throughout 2014 and urge you to continue your support in 2015. I know we haven’t had the success that everyone wants, but it takes time and I believe we are in a much better place than we were this time last year. Yes the ladder says different but sometimes you have to look pass the win/loss ratio, to see the hard work that everyone has put in this year to improve the club on and off the field. If we continue to work extremely hard over the summer we will get the rewards over the next 12 months. We have built some great foundations in 2014 and with smart recruiting and getting further quality people into the club, it will turn around quickly.

We look forward as a club in supporting Matthew Lokan and the Reserves boys this weekend at 11.25am at Mazda City Stadium, as they head into their finals campaign with an elimination final against Norwood.

Reserve Coaches Report - Round 18 v Port Adelaide Magpies

After some inconsistent form over the last 6 weeks, our Reserves team have managed to sneak into the finals and face off against Norwood, on Saturday morning (11:25am) at City Mazda Stadium.

A great week on the track and our players are looking forward to the challenge of playing finals football, in a must win Elimination Final. Not only has it been a great effort to make finals with such a young group, this Saturday’s game will be a fantastic chance for our players to show off their skills on the biggest stage of the year, finals.

Young star Cory Gregson will come back in the line-up after finishing his school commitments and Jacob Carger and Ethan Gill will also return from senior duties to add some much needed experience into our young team.

Without making excuses for our inconsistent form our reserves side has pretty much been an Under 21’s side for the last half of the season. Last week against Port Adelaide we played 14 Under 18 players. This is obviously going to cause some up’s and down’s in performances but it also tells supporters of our club that we have some fantastic young players coming through that will hopefully have long senior careers at our Football Club.

Please come down and support our Reserves team on Saturday at City Madza Stadium. I know the boys would love your support and they are looking forward to marching forward into a successful finals campaign.

See you there!

Matt Lokan - Reserves Coach
