TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT - ROUND 16 VS NORTH ADELAIDE

The boys head to Prospect Oval this week to take on North Adelaide - Reserves start at 11:25am and the League at 2:10pm. The League side welcome back Sam Lonergan and Jake Johansen.

Junior update

The Glenelg Football Club wishes to acknowledge some recent outstanding acheivements within our junior grades.

Congratulations to Matt Allen and Mason Redman have been invited to the AFL National Combine. The AFL has released a list of 76 players who have been picked to attend the four-day testing at Etihad Stadium in October, with four more players to be added in the next two weeks.

State Under 15

Will Gould who played for our Under 16s this year and is still only 14 has been named in the State Schoolboys Under 15 All Australian team. He also finished 4th in the Player of the Carnival. Other players from Glenelg that played in the Championships in Geelong last week were Luke Bull (South Gambier), Tynan Carney (Brighton) and Will McMurray (Keith). The team finished 5th in the Carnival.

SAPSASA Under 12

This group finished 2nd in the carnival also held in Geelong last week and lads from the Glenelg Zone that played were Jayden Davis, (Seacliff PS), Harry Tunkin (St Anthony’s School Millicent) Brodie Edwards (Fulham North PS), Kane Viska (Glenelg PS), Lewis Rayson (Sacred Heart Middle School)

Round 14 SANFL Under 18 MVP - Bailey Williams

Bailey Williams has been awarded the Round 14 SANFL Under 18 MVP. He had an amazing 56 possessions (45 effective) 25 kicks, 31 handballs along with 13 marks (2 contested) 5 tackles and 9 clearances with 3 I50’s and 3 rebound 50’s and 1 goal. It was a tireless effort in a tough day for his team. He played 100% game time and tried desperately to keep his team in the game. His willingness to compete for the ball and also run to receive was outstanding. Bailey has improved greatly in the last 12 months having come through Glenelg’s Junior program and has been rewarded with five reserve matches so far this season.

Darcy Fogarty who has played for our Under 16’s and represented the State in the National Under 16 Carnival has been awarded a Level 1 Scholarship for the NAB AFL Academy. Jonty Scharenberg who held a Level 1 Scholarship in 2015 has been awarded a Level 2 for 2015/16. The players were chosen by the NAB AFL Academy Selection Committee with only 4 from SA chosen  at each level.

Ron Jones

It is with deep sadness that we advise of the passing of Life Member Ron Jones. Ron has been a member and volunteer at our club for over 40 years. He spent many years both on Fundraising Committees along with being one of our League and Reserves statisticians. For his dedication to our club, Ron was awarded life membership in 2006.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with his wife Carolyn and their family during this difficult time.

The funeral service will be held at Centennial Park cemetary Tuesday 28th July at 10am.
