Glenelg Football Club is pleased to announce former Under 17 Coach Ian Cox has been appointed Head Coach of the Glenelg Football Club’s Under 18 Centre of Excellence for the 2009 season.
Ian was instrumental in guiding the 2008 Under 17 squad to their first finals birth in recent years. Focussed on the further development and growth of the Club’s underage players, Ian will bring with him a wealth of knowledge which will be monumental in assisting the players in their football careers.
“As Head Coach, Ian will oversee every level of Underage Football at the Bay with key emphasis on education and development. He is a prominent mentor for the young players and will assist the Club to embrace local talent within our Metropolitan and Country Zones.” Football Operations Manager Ken Applegarth commented.
Ian will draw from his experiences as both player and coach to understand and further challenge the playing level and skill of the underage players. Ian played two years of reserve and league football for South Adelaide in 1990-1991. Throughout his years as a coach Ian has experienced more than his fair share of success. Over the past 8 years prior to his appointment at the Bay, Ian coached Langhorne Creek Football Club, Brighton Football Club and Flagstaff Football Club with considerable accomplishment.
The Under 18 Centre of Excellence will replace the Under 17 and Under 19 competition in the SANFL. The Centre of Excellence was developed by the SANFL to further assist the growth and development of key underage players. The Under 18 competition will span the full 2009 competition season whilst a condensed Under 16 competition will be played in late March through to early May.
Glenelg Football Club would like to congratulate Ian on his new appointment and is looking forward to the continuing evolution of the Bay’s Underage squad in 2009 under Ian’s guidance.
