Centrals 9.11.65

After reading the Centrals match report, I feel like we should apologise for giving them a 2nd rate game.

The truth is our defence was very well set up on Saturday, and with strong pressure and good structure we forced turnovers.

We kept a team to 40 inside 50s from 213 kicks – and forced them sideways

We made errors with the ball as well, some forced, some unforced, which is an area we are working hard on to improve.

But when you at their score of 9.11 and consider 7 of their points were rushed through from strong goal line defence, they converted 9.4.

However only 2 of our 9.9 were rushed and we missed 3 set shots from 30m out dead in front,  which was inexcusable and poor kicking.

The game was lost by us.

July 10, 2018 - MATCH REPORT ROUND 13 - RESERVES
Last time the reserves played Centrals we went down by a single figure margin at home.  Both teams have changed significantly since round 5 when we last met so it was important for us to focus on our style of play.

Centrals 4.4.28

Last time the reserves played Centrals we went down by a single figure margin at home.  Both teams have changed significantly since round 5 when we last met so it was important for us to focus on our style of play.  We wanted to play a disciplined style of team football which was our starting point.

It was probably our best four quarter effort.  We defended well and as a team our ability to consistently score and hold the opposition to minimal scores was pleasing.  We now prepare to play South for the 3rd time this year back at Gliderol and will look to solidify our place in the top five.

June 26, 2018 - MATCH REPORT ROUND 12 - LEAGUE
Really poor start in Q1 with eagles kicking 6 goals to none. They enjoyed 3 free kicks in their F50 which didn’t help us handing them 3 of their 6 goals.

Glenelg 6.10.46
Eagles 14.9.93

Really poor start in Q1 with eagles kicking 6 goals to none. They enjoyed 3 free kicks in their F50 which didn’t help us handing them 3 of their 6 goals.

The 2nd quarter was similar to the 1st - our ball use wasn’t good enough - driving it into our key forward double and triple teamed made it very difficult to score.

By half time 6 frees against in our D50 alone produced 4.2 for the eagles and a commanding lead.

We re-structured at the main break and produced some really good footy in Q3 having 9 shots to 1 but kicking 3.6.

Battled on in Q4 with the aim of just winning the quarter but we were unable to do that.

We head into the bye with some serious thinking to do about our footy.
