Leading into our Round 1 clash against Norwood, the playing group had done everything we could ask of them to prepare for a typically physical contest.
Our pregame preparation was equally as good, and the players were in great spirits and ready to take on our first challenge of season 2020.
For the most part of the game, our pressure around the contest was outstanding, with many Trade Mark efforts the highlight. When we were able to create even numbers around the ground and deny Norwood space when in possession, we were able to force turnovers and play the game in our forward half of the ground. Our focus over the next few weeks will be to sustain this effort and concentration for longer periods of time.
Our defensive end was lead by captain Jack Yates who organised our back-half extremely well and played a great game. Jack was well supported by the impressive Jordan Moore, Callum Park and Dylan Morton.
Sam Liambis kicked 5 goals playing a mid/forward role, Tom McDermott found plenty of the ball through the wings and Nick Leck kicked two goals and played a mature game for us as a key forward.
The exciting aspect of this young group is that we are all aware that we have so much growth in us both as a team and as individuals, and the boys are focussed on doing just that.
Overall, a pleasing weekend of football for the Black & Gold.
