As reported in The Advertiser today, the South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) have released plans and are seeking government support to build two football ovals in the middle of the Morphettville racecourse, which the Glenelg Football Club formally supports.
For a significant period of time our Club has not had access to good quality local ovals, particularly throughout cricket season, to accommodate the training needs of all of our teams. This issue has been heightened with the evolution of women’s football and the recent addition of the SANFLW Development competition and the expanded Under 16 competition.
CEO Justin Scripps said ‘ACH Group Stadium will always be our traditional home but we currently don’t have enough green space in our local area to support our men’s and women’s programs for 11 months of the year. We’re committed to providing the best quality facilities for our players and giving our talented local male and female players the best opportunity to realise their football potential’.
Whilst there is no intention to move our Club facility away from ACH Group Stadium, the Club has signed a formal agreement with the SAJC with the intent of prominently using the racecourse oval space as a centre of excellence training facility.
