Two-time Club Champion Jessica Bates has signed with Collingwood VFLW for 2023.
The Bays’ gutsy tackling machine and key premiership player has been dominant in the midfield since her debut in 2020.
In 2022, she was named Glenelg’s first SANFLW Best & Fairest winner after absolutely smashing the competition’s leading player statistics, with 344 disposals, 151 tackles, 197 kicks, 147 handballs and 75 clearances.
Now, having received the highest accolades possible in the SANFLW competition, the 27-year-old is ready to take the next step in her career.
“I’m so grateful to have been a part of Glenelg for the last three years. I’ve made memories and met people that I will cherish forever! The club will always hold a special place in my heart – if it wasn’t for this opportunity I’d be staying,” she said.
CEO Justin Scripps said the club is behind Bates’ decision and wishes her all the best in this exciting endeavour.
“It’s sad to see her go, but this is a great opportunity that she should explore,” he said.
Congratulations Batesy, we know you’ll make us proud!
