Tigers put on a display of team unity and are rewarded accordingly

It was a overall team game for four quarters that allowed us to secure the win, in a convincing 29-point victory over last year’s grand finalists. It’s the team game we know we are capable of playing, and what we have been working towards it in the last couple of rounds, but it felt as though we were able to dominate the match from start to finish.

Another dominant performance from Piper Window, who had 29 disposals and scored three goals. To complement this, we were able to win the ruck hit outs significantly through great craft of Shay’Lee Dayman and Matilda Scholz to get first possession and win the stoppage with Ellie Kellock again instrumental in setting up forward entries and play.  We seem to finally have a good balance in the forward line after the loss of co-captain Sam Franson, with inside 50 to score ratio a much more pleasing statistic for the coaching group. For the coaches, it was the selfless team behaviours which really held us in good stead, we know that the small things matter and want to keep continuing with these moving forward. We are much better as a unit, and you can really see the synergy starting to build.

Being able to start fast and put pressure on Sturt and forced them to play a style of football that was unfamiliar and uncomfortable. We really managed to counter their slick offensive ball movement they were renown for last year. Contrastingly, our open and offensive play is the style of football we want to be known for, as well as high pressure. It was pleasing in a win to have more tackles at the final siren, but showed the determination and commitment to pressure at every opportunity A standout for us was our youth really standing tall and composed- Poppy Scholz off half back was instrumental as was Madi Freeman and Tessa Kohn rotating through the midfield and forward, and being just as impactful in both. To complement this, having Chelsea Packer and Brooke Tonon playing their best games this year – it was a really good team reward for effort.

Although Sturt came back strongly in the final quarter, I was proud of the whole collective to settle and not concede goals easily, ultimately securing the win. This win will only further build our confidence and trust in each other as we reset with a week off to head into round 4 against North Adelaide.

DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE

Tough scoreboard to swallow given our development girls had a fair percentage of the ball. Apart from a 10 minute period in the second quarter where Sturt’s more experienced forward line got off the chain, our girls performed particularly well. Morriss, Baker and Hinge continue to be high in our best players and are putting together a very consistent season. Amy Jones enjoyed the service Anja Bancevic gave her in the middle and Sheridan Howell continues to be a target up forward.  Hayley Conlon, Caitlin Walter and Hannah Wurfel had their moments as did jordan Horne. Whilst we had plenty of opportunities going forward few of these made it inside 30m which is something to work on in the coming weeks.We welcomed first gamers Bella Koch and Mackenzie Odea who both did some good things but highlight of the day was Annabelle Harris bouncing down the wing and slotting our only goal.

Week off now to regroup with an important game next up to stay in contact with the finals.
