Tina Donovan awarded Life Membership

The Glenelg Football Club was honoured to award Life Membership to Tina Donovan at the 2023 Club Champion Awards Night. This is well deserved by Tina, who had dedicated decades towards the Club.

The below speech by Club Historian Peter Cornwall, who presented the award, perfectly summarises the impact Tina has had.

Tonight we salute someone who is:

Friendly

The ultimate team person

In fact, the epitome of all that is good about Glenelg Football Club.

Tonight we will be honouring with life membership someone who:

For 20 years has set up and supervised the merchandising stand at home games. This involves sorting the merchandise on the Friday before the game, serving on the stand on game days and performing stocktake duties on the Monday after the game.

Someone who was property steward for the men’s senior program for eight years. This involved attendance on match days and three nights a week for training sessions.

This wonderful person then took on the role of inaugural team manager for the Glenelg women’s team.

Her support for the players and coaches and penchant for hard work was always over and above as she held this role for six years, followed by a year as team manager for the development squad. These positions involved attendance on match days and three nights a week, rain, hail or occasional shine, for training sessions. During these seven years she has also performed the duties of head property steward.

She has also performed voluntary duties in reception for the past 10 years.

Tina Donovan is much loved by all of us. She has been like a second mum to the players in the women’s squad.

There could be no more worthy recipient of life membership of Glenelg Football Club.
