The Glenelg Football Club is pleased to announce that Liam McBean will take the reigns as Captain in season 2024.
Following Max Proud’s retirement, senior coach Darren Reeves made the announcement at the 2023 Best & Fairest Awards Night.
McBean was privileged to be given the role, and credited his growth and leadership journey to Max Proud.
“I feel really incredibly humbled and honoured to have the endorsement of Darren Reeves and the coaching group to lead this club moving forward. So much of what I have learnt about leadership in life has come out of the Max Proud handbook, and I really hope that he’s fulfilled by what he’s achieved,” he said.
“From my perspective, the magnitude of what we’ve been able to achieve this year hasn’t quite sunk in, but I think what I’m most proud of is the environment we’ve created. We’ve built a culture of genuine care, connection and investment, and the outcome of that is two premierships. But what I’ve enjoyed just as much as that is our journey, our story and ultimately the company. Every team says that they want to win it all, they all have a list of values and words on the wall, but they’re meaningless without commitment to action.
“I assure everyone that we’re not done, and the goal is going back to back in both grades.”
