Round 4 and the ANZAC weekend of football is always a great time to be playing, especially when the opportunity to play and pay our respects in a Grand Final rematch on Anzac Day. Both teams certainly lifted and battled out a terrific game of football, pleasingly we were able to get the game how we wanted it to look like the longer the game went on, and we were able to register a really strong 43-point win in front of over 6000 people which was a fantastic turn out.
While Norwood has had a tough start to the season so far, my research and studying of their vision had left me under no illusion that they were improving; and with some talent back into the team, they were going to be hard work for us. To their credit they got on top of us around the contest in the first half of the game, were able to defend the ground really well, and made our life difficult. The game continued in much the same manner through the third quarter, although, we did feel like we were able to play much more how we wanted. Our last quarter was really strong in all areas and that translated into scoreboard reward, leaving us feeling much more comfortable as the game went on. Credit to our group who found a way to turn things around after half time, and get back playing in a manner that we know is strong for us.
Our Reserves group recorded a really strong win against a Norwood team that had played really well the week before. Our young group continues to play a really strong brand of football both sides of the ball. They were certainly challenged throughout but always had the game where they needed it to be. While a number of players continue to play consistent football, what is really pleasing is the evenness of the group’s effort over the first 4 weeks of the season.
The weekend was rounded out with our Women’s development team taking out their Grand Final at Stratarama Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Congratulations to all involved for what was an outstanding victory and result.
We head to Unley and a clash with the Sturt football club this Sunday. They present a big challenge, and we look forward to getting there and getting into the contest. We hope to see as many Bay’s supporters as possible there to get behind us.
Go the Bay’s.
