Heading to Noarlunga is always one of the biggest challenges in SANFLW football, and we faced a formidable opponent in South Adelaide, who are again perched at the top of the table.
Our first quarter performance was really pleasing as our contest method and ball movement was clean and we used the width of the ground. Eloise Mackereth put us on the board after a strong mark on the goal line. Shortly after, Cassie McWilliam snapped with her skilful left boot from the boundary.
Our second quarter was unfortunately a repeat of where we have sometimes erred throughout season 2025 with momentary concentration lapses and poor defensive transition that can prove costly against any opponent, let alone against South.
Determined to lift in the third, our intensity and team defence improved significantly and strong two-way running from Elizabeth Johnson (17 disposals, 1 goal) on the wing allowed her an opportunity to kick her first League goal. Ella Quinn led our backline with strong intercept possessions and continually drove us forward through the corridor.
Our fourth quarter produced some of the most methodical passages of play all season. Starting in the midfield, Jess Bates (30 disposals, 12 tackles), Georgie Fielder (25 disposals, 5 clearances) and Asha Dufour (27 disposals, 8 marks) were strong with their run and carry and gave our forwards opportunity. Chloe Harding was excellent with her aerial presence and ball use around the ground as she has stepped up to play more minutes in the ruck.
Taking out the costly second quarter, we won 3 quarters of football. We know this is again a step in the right direction and there is evidence of us competing for longer periods. Our execution and ball movement continues to grow and improve each week.
We face North Adelaide in a twilight Sunday evening time slot straight after our Men’s League game. See you at the footy.
