Batesy’s Back in the Yellow & Black

Two-time Glenelg Women’s Club Champion & premiership player Jess Bates is back for the 2024 season.

The midfield machine spent the 2023 season playing for Collingwood’s VFLW side, showcasing her talent interstate. Bates reaffirmed her talents in Victoria, taking out Collingwood’s VFLW Best & Fairest award. Named as Captain of the VFLW Team of the Year, she was also awarded the league’s Coaches MVP. She was a train-on player for the Pies’ AFLW side, being named as an emergency player proving she is a dominant force on field. Bates led the VFLW competition in major categories including disposals (453), kicks (267), and handballs (186).

Bates won the SANFLW League Best & Fairest in 2022, taking out the leagues highest award before making the move to the Magpies. Making her way home, Jess will join the Bays’ 2024 campaign alongside an ecstatic bunch of old, and new, teammates. Co-Vice Captain Ellen Tyminski echoes the sentiment: “Everyone across the club is excited to have Batesy back, her work rate is something the whole competition admires.”

The Tiger Family faithful are already eager to see her back in the yellow and black, knowing she will be a great asset to the Women’s squad.
