Bays sign former Swans player James Bell

Former Sydney Swans player James Bell is heading down to Glenelg in 2023.

First drafted as a Category B Rookie in the 2017 AFL Rookie Draft, Bell made his AFL debut in Round 21, 2019, following a string of standout performances in the NEAFL. Since then, the QBE Sydney Swans Academy product has played 28 AFL games and booted 10 goals.

The 23-year-old was one of Sydney’s quickest players, best known for attacking the footy and his ability to play on the inside of the midfield, on a wing or at half-forward.

After being delisted by the Swans in October, Bell sought a new opportunity at the Bay.

“I decided to come here because it’s the second best competition in the country [after the AFL]. I’m also best friends with Toby Pink and I played with Will Gould in Sydney, so there were a couple of connections to Glenelg,” he said.

The football department is thrilled with this latest signing, and the club looks forward to seeing what impact Bell has in the midfield.
