Glenelg Football Club premiership coach Darren Reeves will remain at the helm until 2026 after locking in a two-year contract extension.
Originally signed until the end of 2024, Reeves’ contract extension comes after a stellar first season with the Tigers.
Arriving at the Bay in December 2022 from North Adelaide, Reeves impact was immediately felt by everyone in the senior program and wider Bays community.
From day one of pre-season, Reeves’ priority was forging close relationships with the entire senior group and coaching panel. This level of care, combined with his impressive strategic insights, culminated in the club’s sixth League premiership and first ever double premiership, solidifying his place in the Glenelg history books.
His coaching talents were widely recognised across the 2023 season, being selected as an assistant coach for the victorious West End State Team and also named coach in The Advertiser’s SANFL Team of the Year.
But these incredible achievements are just one chapter of Reeves’ story, as his focus has now shifted from celebrations to striving for more in the upcoming season.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead our great club for the next three years, and I’m genuinely excited about where we are at as a football club,” he said.
“The talent and hunger that we have amongst our playing group to continue to build and improve everyday is as good as I have ever been a part of, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it takes us.”
Newly appointed captain, Liam McBean, praised the decision and expressed the playing group’s support towards Reeva’s extended appointment.
“Since the moment Reeva addressed the group late in 2022, it was clear how motivated and invested he was to push our group to achieve success. Behind the energetic and incredibly humble demeanour, there’s a fierce competitiveness drive that only became more and more evident the later the season went on,” he said.
“As players, we feel very grateful to have Reeva as the senior coach, mentor, and, most importantly, friend for the next three years, as we continue to climb into unchartered territory for this proud football club.”
For Glenelg CEO Justin Scripps, the contract extension is a crucial step towards further building upon the club’s culture and success in the modern era.
“The Club is committed to attracting and retaining good quality people with great values in order to keep building our culture and on-field performances. Darren not only has a great footy brain but is exceptional at building high levels of trust and strong relationships with our playing group and all key stakeholders,” he said.
“Darren’s appointment for the next three seasons will give us the stability we need to keep developing an environment that facilitates success.”
