Double Blues keep Tigers quiet

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY MERIDIAN COMMUNICATIONS

After what was an amazing performance in round one, we were were brought back down to earth with a thud in round 2. It was partly because of the way Sturt hunted us and executed their game plan, but also partly because of our inability to be disciplined enough to play our roles and execute our game plan. Sturt were exceptionally good and are looking like being the most improved team in 2022.

It was exciting to see Debutant #100 Shay’Lee Dayman get her opportunity after nearly 500 days of being in our program following a season ending injury just before round 1 in 2021. Her resilience, persistence and determination definitely meant this reward was well and truly earnt.

It was a tight first half, where both teams were stuck in a dour contested game. The third quarter was where Sturt separated themselves from us. They kicked a late goal as a result of a lapse in concentration from us, which gave them a handy three goal buffer heading into the last. This proved to be a bridge too far for us.

We are very disappointed in losing this game. We had a lot of players well below their best. However, we will choose to look at this positively, as it’s better to be exposed by a few things this early in the season rather than later. We will get back to work and look to make the necessary improvements and adjustments.

On a positive note, the Development team had a great come from behind win. Their ability to never give up was great to see.

In such an even competition, anyone can beat anyone if one team is a little off their game. We will need to bounce back to our best quickly if we want to challenge South Adelaide at Noarlunga this Sunday 20th February for the inaugural Indigenous Round. Development kicks off at 4:10pm and the Seniors at 6pm. It would be great to see as many supporters there to help us get back on the winners list.
