Glenelg and South Adelaide Football Clubs honour John Schneebichler with inaugural Medal

It is with great pleasure that Glenelg Football Club and South Adelaide Football Club will present a medal in honour of John Schneebichler at this Saturday’s Round 9 clash.

The John Schneebichler medal will be presented to the player judged ‘best on ground’ in the annual Carey-Darley Cup game between Glenelg and South Adelaide over the next five years.

John Schneebichler made a significant contribution to football in our local community over 45 years. His playing career spanned over 14 years between 1975 and 1989, where he played 234 games at South Adelaide, 26 games at Glenelg and 5 State games.

He would later dedicate 11 years of service to Glenelg as an Administrator and Football Operations Manager, where he played an integral role in building culture by upholding his strong personal values and worth ethic.

It’s a privilege for both Clubs to be able to recognise John’s involvement and legacy through the awarding of this Medal.

This Saturday at 2:10pm, the Tigers will also battle the Panthers at ACH Group Stadium for the annual Carey-Darley Cup.

The Carey-Darley Cup was established in 1992 to recognise the two Clubs’ rivalry and honour South Australian football icons Peter Carey and Peter Darley.

Peter Carey has celebrated a glorious career with Glenelg Football Club, on and off the field. He holds the South Australian record of 448 League games between 1971 and 1988, during which time he captained for six years and won three premierships and best and fairest awards. Today, he continues to contribute to the club as our President and League Director.

Peter Darley was also a ruckman, premiership player, team captain and best and fairest winner at South Adelaide.
