Liam McBean’s got one goal in mind

He proudly wears No.1 for Glenelg and there is only one goal left for Liam McBean as he approaches his 100th Hostplus SANFL League game.

The 28-year-old, having experienced the Bays’ breakthrough premiership in 2019, is eager for more of the same as he enters the twilight of his glittering career.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the triple Ken Farmer Medallist is more than happy to share the goals with fellow forward Lachie Hosie and Luke Reynolds as the Tigers set their sights high in 2023.

Glenelg’s vice-captain – who will reach his milestone against Central at X Convenience Oval on Saturday – has more recently worked higher up the field, as well as in the ruck, as he displays his versatility in multiple roles.

Originally from Aberfeldie near Essendon in Victoria, McBean arrived at Brighton Road through the urging of premiership teammate Darcy Bailey, after being delisted by AFL club Richmond at the end of 2016.

The 202cm forward booted the first six of his 233 SANFL goals on debut for the Bays in Round 1 of 2017 before deciding to spend 2018 travelling overseas with then teammate Brad Agnew.

McBean’s 12-month hiatus gave him plenty of perspective while playing a significant role in refreshing his mind ahead of the club’s memorable 2019 season.

The super-accurate set shot not only played in Glenelg’s drought-breaking flag but landed his first Ken Farmer Medal as well as being selected in The Advertiser Team of the Year.

Leadership has also developed for McBean, who is not only Max Proud’s deputy at Brighton Road but captained the West End State team for its win in Perth last year.

Having seemingly done it all, including having his name on the No.1 locker at the Bay, now McBean says there is only one thing left for him to do.
