Marie set to celebrate magical milestone

By ZAC MILBANK

Glenelg’s Marie Martino wouldn’t have thought a 50-game milestone was within reach when she stepped away from the Hostplus SANFLW League in 2021.

Having played 22 games with West Adelaide between 2018 and 2020, the 24-year-old headed back to her original club Morphettville Park to reignite her passion for the game.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, Martino revealed then Glenelg coach Jason Fairall invited her out to Brighton Road, where she has since thrived while donning the black and gold.

One of the Tigers’ most consistent performers, Martino has rarely missed a game since the start of the 2022 campaign en route to a berth in the SANFLW State Team.

The Bays’ No.15 relished her chance to play with the Croweaters in Perth, as they came away with a 16-point win at Optus Stadium.

An entomologist for the Department of Primary Industries, Martino is itching to put on a strong display for her milestone match, against her old club Westies, at Stratarama Stadium on Saturday.
