Our Boothby Volunteer Recognition Awards winners

We are thrilled to share that last Tuesday, our beloved volunteers in Steve Newport, Tina Donovan and Gordon (Flash) Anderson received Boothby Volunteer Service Awards for their outstanding contributions to our club at the Boothby Volunteer Recognition Awards!

Their nominations were based on their tireless efforts around the club, from Flash taking photos on nearly every game day of the past 20+ years, to Tina working merchandise and managing our GFCW teams, and Steve helping with our junior sides and packing thousands of memberships over his tenure.

You can read their nominations below, highlighting why we are so unbelievably lucky and thankful to have such incredible volunteers that are vital cogs in our Tiger family.

We again thank these three superstars for all of their help and congratulate them on receiving their accolades.
NOMINATIONS
Steve Newport
Steve Newport has been a long serving volunteer of the Glenelg Football Club since the 80s assisting with junior Glenelg sides. Steve became a Life Member following his first volunteering stint at the Bay, in the early 2000s, and has returned to volunteering duties since 2020 - assisting in packing and posting thousands of membership packs, merchandise items, scanning thousands of patrons into game days and selling budgets to Club members etc.
Steve is a loyal member of the Club who has created a strong and welcoming environment to the Club community on the morning of game days. We are very grateful for Steve and his dedication to the Club, we are incredibly lucky to have him help and for his ability to assist us at the drop of a hat.
He is a true Bay man, who is a crucial part of our community.
Tina Donovan
Tina Donovan has served at the Glenelg Football Club for over 20 years. Every home game you can find Tina at the merchandise tent, multiple nights a week you will find her at the Glenelg Football Club women's training sessions as team manager, for eight years you could have found her at the men's training sessions as property steward, or during the day - over the last 10 years - you could have found her assisting with any and all reception duties.
The Glenelg Football Club wouldn't be the same without the dedication of volunteers like Tina, and we are very grateful to have her and her service. Tina is a generous and kind woman, who continued to devote her time to the Club during cold winter nights, rainy weekends, and continued to spend her time assisting the Club as best as she could while her partner Kerry (another long serving volunteer) faced many health issues.
We are extremely blessed to have people like Tina within the Glenelg community and believe she is a well-deserved, enthusiastic, kind and dedicated nominee for the Volunteer Service Award.
Gordon (Flash) Anderson
You can find Gordon (commonly known as Flash) at every senior Glenelg game over the last 20+ years. Gordon's dedication to the Bay grows continually each year, with his generosity proven as he hosts 2-3 Glenelg senior players each year in his home.
Gordon's photos have been published in many Glenelg Football Club publications including the 2021 Ton of Tigers Centenary Yearbook, 2021 and 2023 Premiership Yearbook's, and daily social media posts from the Club. Gordon's work has been recognised as a finalist in the AFL Footy Focus competition in 2023, where he received high praise from AFL Photographer Michael Willson. Gordon's dedication to the Glenelg Football Club was recognised by the SANFL earlier this year when he received the SANFL Merit Award to his significant service to football in South Australia.
We believe that Gordon is a well deserving recipient of the Boothby Volunteer Service Award because he encapsulates everything it means to be a Bays volunteer - devoted, dedicated, welcoming, and driven.
His ability to face all weather conditions - rain, hail or shine, with his trusty camera, is a credit to his character and we feel privileged to have him inside our Club.
