Peter Carey steps down as Club President

At last night’s Annual General Meeting, Club members voted for Peter Carey and Robert Gillies to be reappointed to the Board for a further two years.

At the conclusion of the AGM, Club President Peter Carey announced that he was stepping down as President after three years at the helm, but would remain on the Board.

In a statement to the Club Carey said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my 3 years as President of the Glenelg Football Club. The club has meant so much to me and my family for so many years. I played my 1st game for the Tigers in the Under 17’s in 1969 and have followed the club closely since then. We are in a strong position to continue our successes over the last few years. I believe a club should be measured by sustained success on and off the field and I believe we have achieved that and well placed for it to continue”.

After ten years of great service, Board member Michael Michael’s advised that he would not be continuing. The Club thanks Michael for the time and commitment he gave, particularly in helping the Club navigate through several years of financial hardship during his tenure.

At the post AGM board meeting to appoint Office Bearer’s, the Board unanimously voted that current Vice President and Finance Director, David Whelan be appointed Club President. Whelan has worked tirelessly on the Board for over 11 years and has provided great leadership, guidance and support to the Board and management team during this time. Upon his appointment David said “Having been on the Board for many years, I look forward to the challenge of continuing the legacy that Peter & Nick have created at the Club, making a positive impact in our community and building sustained success on and off the field.”

The Club was also pleased to report another year of profitability and improved its net asset position giving the Club some great stability moving into 2023. On field, we’ve been really diligent in the off season in securing some high quality coaches and players to the Club and are really comfortable with the alignment and growth of our group, which will provide us with a really strong foundation for the 2023 season.

If you haven’t yet purchased your 2023 membership or the Ton of Tigers book, there is just over 5 weeks until Round 1. We look forward to seeing you back at the footy.

Go Tiges.
