Reeva’s Match Wrap | Round 1

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY CONCEPT DATA

It felt like an eternity to arrive, but it certainly went by really quickly on the night and our players were terrific in how they prepared and then executed over the four quarters in our Round 1 clash with Port Adelaide. It is great to start the season with a strong win and equally important that we had some new players play well and have strong contributions to the result.

As always, there was pressure and speed in the game early, the intensity had lifted from the trial games, and it was always going to be a bit of an arm wrestle for a period of time. While we didn’t have it our own way through the first half, there were periods throughout that we threatened to break the game apart. Some sloppiness, and probably being a little reactive defensively, meant we went to half time with a really strong contest on our hands. Pleasingly, were able to take our intent and energy to another level in the 3rd quarter, which allowed us to dominate the field position and create multiple scoring opportunities.

We are really clear on what works for us and there are some great takeaways in how we need to go about it to allow the game to be on our terms. Once we were in that place, the rest of the game flowed and some exciting ball movement followed, which is a big positive. There are areas of improvement that we will continue to work at and look to take those and the really good stuff into round 2 against Central Districts this Saturday.

Our young Reserves group recorded a solid first up win against West Adelaide in their round 1 clash on Saturday morning. While the game didn’t really have much of a flow, what was great from a really new and young group, was that they found a way to win despite being really challenged through the second half. They were able to show good maturity, exciting talent and proved that they have prepared well to be able to play long into games. Some good signs, and lots to look forward to for this group.

We head into our first home game of 2025 this Saturday with a full day of Football. Our women’s teams play earlier in the day at Prospect, before our Reserves at 2pm and our League game at 4.40pm against Central Districts. It is great to be back at Glenelg with the unveiling of our 2024 Premiership flag, bringing back players not playing in 2025 back for this occasion.

There is plenty going on at the club and we can’t wait to get into it with a big Glenelg crowd here to support.

See you there!
