Reeva’s Match Wrap | Round 16

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY CONCEPT DATA

With our playing group well rested both physically and mentally from the bye week, our week of preparation was strong knowing that the Eagles would bring great energy and endeavour after a tough period of games for them. With a couple of good players back into the team mixed with some talent across their group we were expecting a tough contest. While the scoreboard ends well in our favour, the contest was exactly as we expected, and we take the 2 points, some little areas to keep working on and move onto the next step.

With a strong breeze giving advantage heading to the southern end for most of the day, it was important to grab that advantage in the first quarter of the game. While we were a little sloppy at times and the game was being played a little frantic around that, it took some time to get the score board ticking over. Pleasingly we were able to kick 7 goals all from turnover situations to have a comfortable lead at the first break. The 2nd quarter was a little frustrating as we made hard work of it at times. To the Eagles credit they were on top around stoppage and were certainly working hard and making life difficult and we were not helping ourselves. We were able to steady late and maintain a nice advantage into half time.

Our 2nd half was certainly very strong in all areas. With a few little adjustments around contest and a willingness to get the ball going our way, we were able to play large amounts of time in our forward half and the scoreboard reward started to follow. That continued into the last quarter and we were able to walk away pleased with how we worked the game into how we wanted it to look and finish really strongly. All of these are great signs as we continue to build.

Our Reserves group were made to work hard to find a positive result against another top 5 team. After starting the game well, it quickly turned into a battle with both teams leading at different times and in with a chance to win late into the game. Finding ourselves behind late in the last quarter our group was able to settle and put some strong passages together to grab a strong win. With a lot of the stats against them on the day, it was a strong effort to get the result and keeps them on top of the table as we head into round 17. Good job to all.

Round 17 will see us head to Prospect Oval and a clash with North Adelaide. For us it will be about continuing to build on our game, play at a really consistent level over the full 120 minutes both offensively and defensively. It will be a great contest with North Adelaide capable of beating most teams in the competition on their day. We look forward to seeing a large contingent of Bays supporters there on Saturday to get behind us.
