PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY CONCEPT DATA
Round 2 and our first home game of the season against Central Districts, was a tough, uncompromising contest that while at times threatened to open up and be high scoring affair, never really reached those heights. But that is what you expect when you have to really good teams battling away and not willing to give too much up.
The day started with a really strong win by our Reserves group, after the battle they had the week before they were able to hit the ground running in this contest and play some really exciting football over the entire game. What was impressive was that the young group never gave the opposition any time to get into the game being really aggressive in defence and from that we were able to see some exciting attacking offensive football. Well done to the group, it has been a great start to 2025 by them.
Leading into the League game it was great to see some of our 2024 Premiership players, Chris Curran, Will Gould, Billy Stretch and Alex Martini currently out injured, taking part in our Premiership flag unavailing. Always great to have great players returning to the club.
The start to the League was really impressive by our group, we had great intent and energy through the first 15 mins of the game and were able to hit the score board early which is always important. We certainly felt in control of the game through the first half but to Central’s credit they able to change the momentum a little and turned it into a battle leading into the second half. Pleasingly our groups response after half time was a really mature effort and we were able to control and get the game well on our terms for the most part.
There are lots of growth areas that we will continue to work at as we go, we did feel like we wasted some of our opportunities going forward with the ball so that will be a focus leading into round 3. What we are really happy about is how we are defending the ground and how difficult we have been to score against through the trial games and especially through the first 2 rounds. We know when we are doing this, we can build a lot of what we do on the back of it.
We head into the Gather Round bye pleased with how we have started and focused on what is next, round 3 against Adelaide Crows on Good Friday. We look forward to seeing a big Glenelg crowd there as we take on one of the really strong and in-form teams of the competition. We look forward to the opportunity.
