SANFL Super Matches Set to Excite in 2023

March 29, 2023

Footy fans and festival goers alike will have plenty to cheer about this season thanks to a brand new gameday experience throughout the 2023 Hostplus SANFL League season.

In an exciting first for SANFL, one game every weekend will be identified as a “SANFL Super Match” – presented in partnership with The Advertiser – providing a value-added experience for supporters of all ages.

The marquee matches will not only provide a showcase of top on-field action, a roadshow of aligned off-field activities – from bars and food vans to club-branded giveaways and footy-themed activities – will ensure plenty of fun around the grounds as well.

Various SANFL partner activations have been planned – such as an AAMI chill-out zone, Canadian Club pop-up bar and KIA car displays, complete with an opportunity to win an SA weekend getaway.

The Advertiser Family Zone will feature a range of kids’ activities – including jumping castles, giant games, face painters, a kick’n’catch and inflatable fun – while Hostplus Goal Cards will be available to help you celebrate every goal.

Marked by its inflatable golden arches, McDonald’s will be on hand with thunder sticks, mini footballs, branded tote bags and vouchers, while West End/Hahn representatives with mobile beer backpacks will ensure you won’t need to leave your seat to enjoy a beer.

And if you are keen for a new hairdo, you can even have a cut or style at selected SANFL grounds by Attaboy barber and hairdresser to look like your favourite SANFL player!

SANFL chief executive officer Darren Chandler said the league was “extremely excited” about the Super Match concept, which is aimed at boosting crowds and providing a “real festival atmosphere” at suburban grounds.

“We’re extremely excited about the new weekly SANFL Super Match initiative, aimed at boosting attendances and providing a real festival atmosphere at SANFL grounds to enhance the game day experience for fans,” Chandler said.

“Not only are you guaranteed high-quality footy, the SANFL Super Matches will be an opportunity for footy fans, families and festival-goers to enjoy a unique experience at the footy.

“Importantly, we want SANFL footy to continue to be an accessible, entertaining family-friendly experience for all ages to enjoy. With free entry for kids at every game, it’s affordable entertainment.”

Super Matches have already been locked in for the first 10 rounds of the season, with the remainder to be finalised once AFL fixturing has been completed.

The series kicks off with last year’s elimination finalists Sturt and Glenelg at Wigan Oval on Saturday, April 1, with the next featuring Central District against North Adelaide at X Convenience Oval on Good Friday.

After a break for AFL Gather Round, last year’s grand finalists – Norwood and the Roosters – will square off in the round three clash at The Parade on Anzac Day.

Fans can access discounted tickets by pre-purchasing online, or tickets will be for sale at the gate.

Chandler said the best value match access was to sign up for a season club membership.

“It’s time to wear your SANFL team colours with pride and get along to cheer on your local club for a great day at the footy in season 2023,” he said.

Tickets can be purchased via the SANFL website at sanfl.com.au/league/tickets or each home club website.

Free face painting will be part of the entertainment for kids at SANFL Super Matches.
