SANFLW Match Wrap | Round 3

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY CONCEPT DATA

Round 3 saw us travel up to Mt Barker to play Sturt at The Summit.
Our Reserves began the day with a clinical win by 45 points, playing to the conditions perfectly and showing our ability on offence.
Our League team welcomed a club debutant in Cassie McWilliam, one of our off-season signings from Nightcliff in the NTFL, who has also WAFLW and VFLW experience. We welcome Cassie and her family to the GFCW family and look forward to seeing her left-footed silky skills over the season.
Kicking into the wind in the first quarter, we were outnumbered at contest and didn’t adjust defensively around stoppages. Sturt were able to gain the upper hand and put two goals on the board using the wind to their advantage.
The second quarter saw us wrestle the momentum and get on top around the contest, winning hit-outs, clearances, tackles, and first possession. Jess Bates led the way for us with 27 disposals, 13 tackles, and 10 clearances and Shaylee Dayman battled hard in the ruck with 37 hit outs. Unfortunately, we were unable to connect chains of possession to give ourselves high quality inside 50 entries. Successive shots on goal missed and we went into half time 2 goals down.
We were playing catch-up football during the second half and were not able to close the gap. Asha Dufour worked her way into the game nicely and finished with 21 touches, 9 clearances and 9 tackles. Our young defence was led very well by Lauren Edwards who is continuing her early-season consistent form.
We are aware of the things we need to continue to work hard on to get our season trending in the right direction. We back in our process and will continue to learn and get better.
GFCW Best:
Bates, Edwards, Dayman, Kellock
