Heading to Elizabeth to play Centrals is always a challenging prospect, and with an excellent performance against North in Round 1 and a solid first half last week against the Magpies, we knew this trip wouldn’t be any different. We went in with an unchanged team and started the game well with plenty of the ball in our front half, but we were unable to capitalise on our inside 50’s with goals. We had numerous repeat entries inside 50 but were only able to kick 1:5 for the quarter to Centrals 1:2.
The second quarter was a lot better with the ball living inside our half of the ground. We managed to have nine shots on goal from our 13 inside 50 entries, but inaccuracy in front of the big sticks was still an issue.
The second half was a lot more of an even contest and we knew Centrals would come out and respond, which they did, but I was happy with the way we went about our game. Playing on a big ground like Elizabeth means that you need to look to move the ball differently and I was pleased with how we moved the ball, although our fundamentals cost a number of entries inside 50.
It was pleasing to see our Reserves team also have a good win. They remain undefeated as well moving into round 4, where they head back out to Elizabeth. Our League team play Port Magpies in a Anzac Day rematch of the 2019 Grand Final, which many of our players are looking forward. With our Reserves team playing well, it is making the match committee definitely interesting and keeping the league players on their toes.
I look forward to seeing everyone back at ACH Stadium this week at 6:30pm on Saturday night for our big game against Port.
