Tough night for the Tigers

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY MERIDIAN COMMUNICATIONS

On what was hopefully the backend of our COVID whack, we saw five players return from Health and Safety Protocols, meaning more changes and possibly some players a little short of a run. Our return game against Norwood was our first home game for the season and the men’s season opener.

Norwood jumped us in the first quarter, kicking the first two goals, but we managed to provide some resistance and responded by kicking one.

Norwood again kicked a goal early in the second quarter and after a lengthy arm wrestle, we were able to kick one at the backend of the quarter as we headed into the main break only down by a goal.

The third quarter was a complete domination by us. We controlled the territory battle and dominated the inside 50’s. Norwood’s ability to get numbers back to flood our forward line made it a real challenge for us to score. It goes without saying, Norwood never looked like scoring for the quarter, but sadly we could only manage two behinds.

Credit where credit is due, Norwood outplayed us in the last quarter, piling on the last four goals of the game to open up a significant margin. We simply ran out of legs and Norwood were able to take advantage of it.

We learnt a lot from this game. Players have taken a lot away from our game review, especially in the third quarter where we had plenty of opportunities but just didn’t take them. Having 16 more inside 50’s for the game suggests we still did a lot right.

This Saturday April 9th we are back home at ACH Group Stadium against Sturt. We kick off at 9am before our U16’s and U18’s. Another opportunity to play against the most improved team in the competition, who took the points last time we played them and are a game ahead of us on the ladder. We are really looking forward to this game.
