Women’s Match Wrap: Round 9

It was great to be back on the winners list this week with a 45-point win over the Eagles. Overall the game was pleasing, and it was great to see us get some reward for the effort of the playing group over the last 4 weeks.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the game, but that would be their only major for the game, as once again our defense stood up strong. Time and time again were able to set up attacking transitions from our half back line. The run and carry of both Madi Freeman and Grace Duffy through the middle and the group was instrumental.

Pleasingly we were able to hit the scoreboard more fluently this week, with Sam Franson looking very lively, Eloise Jones continuing to impact and Cailtin Gould looking very dangerous.

But the most pleasing story to come from the game was our latest debutant, Casie Coombe, who despite having to wait till Round 9 for her chance, didn’t waste any time having an impact on the game from the very start.

Despite the strong win, our efforts to secure a top four position has fallen short with other results not going our way. In any case, we plan to finish the season off strong, as we take on Norwood 11:30am this Saturday 1st August at Coopers Stadium. We would really appreciate your support to help us celebrate the end of what has been a very challenging and indifferent season.
