Glenelg midfielder Billy Stretch is poised to be chosen by AFL club Melbourne as a father-son selection next month.
Stretch, the son of Demons best-and-fairest Steven, has enjoyed a successful season with the McDonald’s SA Under-18 team and at league level with the Tigers.
The talented midfielder, who turned 18 on Monday, will be nominated by the Demons once paperwork is lodged at AFL House this week.
Melbourne is then committed to selecting Stretch with their last live pick at November’s AFL National Draft.
Rival AFL clubs have an opportunity to bid for Stretch’s services, which could force the Demons to part with a higher draft pick in order to secure the Immanuel College student.
Stretch was among several award winners honoured at a special presentation dinner on Sunday night, as the members of the McDonald’s SA Under-18 and Under-16 sides celebrated their 2014 National Championship victories.
